CAUGHT UP!?
We headed south just over two weeks ago and I left an unfinishable painting on the easel that was supposed to be my submission for the 6+1 show at Grace Brothers. The design was wrong.
We stopped last weekend to spend time with cousins at Statesville, NC. Together we went to Davidson to the "Art on the Green" event. The day was warm and sunny and the participants and their crafts were all tented. There was an artist who makes paintings out of small torn bits of paper and these included landscape as well as portrait. Impressive. The owner and potter of Horse Ass Pottery, told us about her method of using the tail hair of horses to make designs on her pottery. She also demonstrated her egg separator pot, one of which I bought, just because it was different. I can separate eggs without it.
A visit to Cheap Joes at Boone, North Carolina certainly helped a great deal in resolving my I-must-paint-when-I-get-home problem. The new painting is done and submitted t
o the Gallery yesterday, thanks due to the purchase of an excellent book on acrylic painting tips, a new canvas, brushes and paints and to our arrival home a day earlier than expected. I feel painted out!
During our stay at Hilton Head, a few watercolour attempts solved that problem but the larger one of whether or not there would be time to paint another still loomed.

I feel painted out! This acrylic painting was inspired by a local scene downtown, mostly by the surprise of the small house on the rooftop. It is not photo realistic and I have taken many liberties in design and content. The small circular window in the alley, is reminiscent of the window I remember at my grandfathers. The small whitish rectangles in the sky, represent the windows of the Boat Building which appeared as backdrop to the other buildings in one of my photos.
I drove by these buildings yesterday and looked up to discover that some changes have been made to the rooftop house. There has been some construction and the front of the house is no longer as clearly visible. It appears that the front deck will have some shading from this summer's sun.

DEADLINES
The SAW Executive meeting took place this morning and as usual there was lots of creative energy bouncing around the room. Things resolved, reviewed, planned and we were on our way. Trish joined us and shared some of the plans for her business that could benefit us in the future. Apart from our member's contributins to her Art Rental plans, Erika's paintings could find a home in that location. While there, the MPP's office called and asked if we could have the paintings on the walls sooner than we had planned - April not May. I will not be involved with this as we will still be in the Carolinas.
The buildings painting has rested again but this time, I do know where it is going. Completion is near. Visited a few more canvases and dropped some paint on one, resolving a problem that may lead to an interesting painting in time. Found the green mix I was looking for in another. Otherwise, the day was given to other things.

FIRST FRIDAY

A total of 199 people passed through the Lawrence House this evening between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m. and there were buyers. Valerie played the piano upstairs in the Turret Room where Erika's work was on display. When I arrived the table had been set out, dishes, punch bowl, food, etc. A lamp instead of a candle was on the antique table beside Erika's bio. The music, the lighting, the room and the paintings formed a very peaceful and pleasant showcase. I knew that Dagmar would be in for a bit of the evening but did not expect anyone else. Jane was already there as a volunteer of the LH and there were several other LH volunteers as well so I was not stuck in one place all evening. What a great crowd. Met a lot of people, some new to Sarnia, some just new to me. Valerie's music filled the upstairs until 7 p.m., beautiful! Nine of Erika's paintings sold! A few could have been sold more than once. I will have to remember to prepare some bio sheets to attach to the back of the paintings as there were requests for this information by purchasers.
Since Tuesday I have let the buildings painting sit. I have been in this state in a painting before and decided the only solution was to leave it alone. It came to me that I was painting at cross purposes with myself. Whatever did I want? Definitely not what was happening. I had become too stressed and today, after this rest and insight, I began again. It has changed and will change but is now beginning to appear more as though it is indeed my painting. Perhaps the end is near?
I skipped the acrylic class today. I will need to get Jack's book back to him before we leave for Hilton Head but I do not think I can possibly read it in such a short time. I think I will order it from Amazon and hope it gets here before we leave?
Rita sent a link to a video on Stumble Upon today. Unbelievable Mind in an autistic person, incredible memory and drawing skills.
