South Carolina in the Morning

It doesn't seem to be too long before interest in arty things is rekindled. Art is everywhere.

I've found prints of artists' work in the condo book and took some time to study them. Most were representational. Only one with strong colour and simple shape really stands out in my memory. I can see it still. The straightest lines represent a two story house. The house has one window outlined in irregular white lines, as does the door to this building. Irregular black lines define the roof and give a third dimension to the house itself. The horizon is curved, using large arcs to mark the land. A single tree stands back and to the left of the house. The colours are rich. I love it!

The others offered recognizable elements of design and things to ponder as well as eye appeal and got me to thinking about some some 'rules' about water and horizon. Both are straight lines at their edge. But, there are waves and other objects such as boats on the lakes or bushes or buildings on the landscape that remove the ruled edge look. Foreground shore lines may be diagonal and create some interest as well.

After looking at the photos of paintings I made notes in my 'little black book':
